1 — Welcome Aboard

Honeymoon Bay • Waterfront

The Anchor Cottage is a peaceful retreat tucked in the trees and along the Puget Sound waterfront. Come enjoy the cozy fire and soak in the views as you immerse yourself into the relaxing sounds of nature.

The waterfront yard is fully fenced with a gate to keep your pup nearby and out of the water without adult supervision. Guests book the whole house and property — this includes private staircase down to sandy beach, kayaks, and fire pit on deck above.

Design intent: Detach from the world. Morning coffee watching Honeymoon Bay, afternoon on the sound, evening around fire. Ample yard space, calm water, big trees. Built for 2–6 humans and a well-behaved dog.

3 bedrooms / 3 beds / 1 bath. Open living + kitchen. Historic cottage, bright and window-lined — bay views from living + dining.

View

Southwest over Honeymoon Bay. Best light 6–9am from sofa, sunset fireside. Watch for eagles, otters, occasional seals.

Noise

Quiet cove. No road hum. Puget Sound lapping, wind in firs. Please keep music low after 9pm — sound travels over water.

2 — Arrival & Departure

How to board, how to leave her better than you found her.

Check 3PM / Out 10AM

Check-in

  • Self check-in after 3:00 PM via code (Airbnb message). Key box location shared at booking.
  • Exterior cameras on property for security only — not in private spaces.
  • Back bedrooms use baseboard heaters (thermostat built into each heater). Main living area heat is wood-burning fireplace only. Firewood stacked outside — kindling under deck box.
  • Gate to beach: latch from inside. Close after every use for dogs / kids.

Checkout — Charter Close

  • Dishes washed + put away (no dishwasher). Wipe counters, stovetop.
  • Thermostat to 55°F / 13°C, close all windows, lock doors.
  • Trash to bin outside — recycle loose in blue. Food from fridge removed.
  • Kayaks + PFDs rinsed, back on rack. Fire pit cold, gate latched.
  • Towels in tub (do not need to launder — no washer onsite).
Waterfront note: Tide swings 6–10 ft in Honeymoon Bay. At low tide, beach is wide and sandy-muddy. At high tide, water comes up stairs. Check NOAA tide for Greenbank. Do not leave towels/kids gear on lowest steps.

6 guests max. No extra overnight guests. Day visitors OK with notice, 6 total onsite after 10pm.

Quiet

Whidbey is quiet. Outdoor music low, off by 9pm. Fires low after 10pm.

Not inside, not on deck. Beach only, pack out. $250 cleaning fee if indoors.

Pets

Dog-friendly. 1–2 well-behaved dogs max. Gate closed, not in bedrooms unless covered. Rinse sand.

Safety Gear

CO alarm, smoke alarm, 2 fire extinguishers (kitchen + hall), first aid under sink. Exterior cameras on.

Leave No Trace (dock rule)

Wind takes napkins fast. Beach toys inside. Food locked — raccoons are clever.

Water tip: Whidbey well water = a little sweet. Great coffee. Run tap 5 sec first draw.

Primary, most private. True king with harbor glimpse through trees.

East side, morning light. Blackout curtains, reading lights.

Living area flex. Pull down, pin legs. Ladder in closet. Return upright day use.

7 — Head

1 full bath. Hot water pacing for full crew.

Septic Care
  • Only TP in toilet — no wipes ever (septic). Bin for wipes.
  • Fan auto 20 min. Please use — moisture.
  • Extra towels in chest, not closet. Beach towels separate (striped).
  • Shower — good pressure, short hose. Squeegee after.

8 — Backyard, Beach & Fire Pit

Private staircase to sandy beach, deck above, fenced yard. The reason you chartered.

Tide Dependent

The waterfront yard area is fully fenced with a gate to keep your pup nearby and out of water without adult supervision. Gate must latch. Steps are steep-ish, handrail on right going down.

Fire Pit

On deck above beach. Check burn ban. Keep small, inside ring. No pallets / trash. Extinguish: water, stir.

Beach

Sandy with some rock. At low tide very wide. Water cold year round ~50°F. Swim shoes nice.

Fence / Gate

Close always. Dogs: leash to beach, voice OK if recall is solid. Rinse collars.

Ethic: Beach is shared ecosystem. No soap on beach. Pack shells only if uninhabited small. Leave big driftwood.

A private staircase leads down to sandy beach with kayaks and a fire pit on deck above. 2 single sit-on-top, paddles + PFDs in deck box. Leash PFDs on always — cold water.

  • Paddle within cove only if wind >10 kt or inexperienced. Honeymoon Bay (northwest cove of Holmes Harbor) is 3 mi long — current near entrance.
  • Rinse salt + sand after use, rack bow toward house.
  • Check wind via NOAA or Windy — afternoons often breezier.
  • No night paddling, no stand-up without PFD.

No guest access — nearby lake is private. Please do not access from the property or neighboring paths. Refer to county maps for public access points elsewhere on the island.

Greenbank Farm

3 min drive — shop, gallery, pies, trail, marsh. Good coffee. Great for stretching.

Shops & Food

Bayview — farm stand, hardware, espresso. Freeland 9 min — groceries, tacos, wine. Coupeville 18 min — front street.

Tides

NOAA Greenbank 9447855. Look for 2–3 ft lows for best beach combing. High >9 ft covers lower steps.

Weather

Microclimates. West side often clouds earlier. If harbor glassy morning, paddle then — not 3pm.

Wildlife

Eagles daily, herons, otters, deer. Do not feed. Binoculars in window box. Keep dog close for fawns May–July.
